Pacific Rim Wants to End Its Saga as Kickstarter Graphic Novels

It’s been a few years since we last saw anything from the Pacific Rim franchise, and even longer since its sequel. Enough time’s passed since Pacific Rim Uprising that Legendary’s ready to bring it back, but instead of putting out another spinoff show, it’s taking the Jaeger/Kaiju War to the page.

Legendary Comics recently launched a Kickstarter for the three-part graphic novel series Pacific Rim: Final Breach, written by Joshua Hale Fialkov (The Bunker) and with art by EJ Su (Transformers: Last Bot Standing). For all intents and purposes, it sounds like the Pacific Rim 3 we would’ve gotten in another life. After several failed attempts at entering the Kaiju’s home dimension, Jake Pentecost and Hermann Gottleib decide they need the first film’s lead Raleigh Beckett to help them. Where’s Raleigh been all this time? Apparently in exile again, but just like in the first movie, he’ll have get in the mech (a new Jaegar named Gipsy Destroyer) and lead a charge into the Anteverse so this war can finally end.

Final Breach’s campaign launched on August 5, and has currently made around $76,000 of its initial $99,000 goal. You can go here for a preview of the first few pages, plus details on the backer bonuses and stretch goals. Scheduling-wise, the first book is tentatively expected to drop in October 2025, followed by volumes two and three in the fall of 2026 and 2027, respectively. There’s a lot of backers for this project, and it’s sure to grow ahead of the campaign closing on September 4. People still hold a torch for Pacific Rim, and having Raleigh back after his absence from Uprising probably doesn’t hurt either.

If this is the best (or only) way to continue the series, might as well take the shot. Maybe it’ll do well enough to warrant a film treatment, since that’s a thing we’re apparently doing now.
